However, they will soon be met with legal obligations to ensure that sustainable operation is employed. A particularly ambitious target is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 but due to smaller economies of scale and typically traditional processing techniques, this poses significant challenges to many craft distillers. A technique utilised for the environmental evaluation of systems is a Life Cycle Assessment. However, these have gained criticism for being reactive measures. By integrating the methodology into simulation-based prediction models to forecast the environmental landscape of gin production in 2050, this piece of work aims to avoid this. From this information, it is also believed that the most impactful environmental remediation actions and a suitable pathway to net-zero can be identified. This has potential to be incredibly powerful and could accelerate the sustainable development of the craft gin industry. Members-only MSc Research project survey – They need your input 18th July 2022 / 18th July 2022 by Pal Gleed Many craft gin distillers pride themselves on their conscientious efforts to minimise their environmental impacts. However, they will soon be met with legal obligations to ensure that sustainable operation is employed. A particularly ambitious target is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 but due to smaller economies of scale and typically traditional processing techniques, this poses significant challenges to many craft distillers. A technique utilised for the environmental evaluation of systems is a Life Cycle Assessment. However, these have gained criticism for being reactive measures. By integrating the methodology into simulation-based prediction models to forecast the environmental landscape of gin production in 2050, this piece of work aims to avoid this. From this information, it is also believed that the most impactful environmental remediation actions and a suitable pathway to net-zero can be identified. This has potential to be incredibly powerful and could accelerate the sustainable development of the craft gin industry. Read more »
