Aviation American Gin Distillery

Located in Portland, Oregon, Aviation American Gin Distillery is home to one of the pioneers of the modern American gin movement. Originally created in 2006 through a collaboration between master distiller and Gin Guild member Christian Krogstad of House Spirits Distillery and renowned bartender Ryan Magarian, Aviation challenged traditional perceptions of gin by placing greater emphasis on balance and mixability while retaining juniper at its heart. The result was a softer, more contemporary style that helped define the New Western Gin category.

The distillery continues to produce Aviation American Gin using a carefully selected blend of seven botanicals, including juniper, cardamom, lavender, coriander, anise, sarsaparilla and sweet orange peel. Distilled in small batches, the gin is crafted to deliver a smooth, versatile spirit designed with cocktails in mind, particularly the classic Aviation cocktail from which it takes its name.

Aviation’s international profile grew significantly following actor Ryan Reynolds’ investment in the brand in 2018, before its acquisition by Diageo in 2020. In 2022, the brand opened its dedicated Aviation American Gin Distillery in Portland, giving selected visitors the opportunity to explore the distillation process, enjoy guided tastings and discover the story behind one of America’s most influential contemporary gin brands.
