The Gin Guild is encouraging distiller members to support an important research project being undertaken at Heriot-Watt University’s International Centre for Brewing and Distilling (ICBD).

MSc Brewing and Distilling student Mai Terano is conducting a study exploring the potential for the sustainable valorisation of spent gin botanicals and is seeking input from those who operate gin distilleries or make decisions relating to sustainability and by-product management.

The survey aims to build a better understanding of current industry practices, challenges and opportunities surrounding the use of spent botanicals. Responses are anonymous and the project has received ethical approval from Heriot-Watt University (Project 16206).

Research of this kind depends on industry participation, so if you are able to spare a few minutes, please consider taking part. Your contribution will help ensure the findings accurately reflect the realities faced by gin producers and may help identify future opportunities for the sector.
