One of the biggest problems Xavier and the team at Isle of Wight Distillery (Home of Mermaid Gin) has had over the years, is finding an engineer who could fix distillery/brewing kit, and bottling lines and all the associated equipment including steam and cooling systems.

Normally, they would have to wait for engineering expertise from Italy (most of their equipment is either Italian or British-made) or wait for ages for overpriced parts!

For the benefit of our other distillery and brewer colleagues, we are delighted to introduce Ian Smith from Industrial Maintenance Solutions, a one man band who they consider a genius!

He has fixed and maintained their steam boilers/stills/pumps/conveyer systems, Gia/Borelli/Quinti/IC Filling Systems and Vigo bottlers and labellers and much more.

Ian has been working in the food and drink industry for over 25 years as a mechanical electrical engineer with welding and fabrication experience TIG MIG MMA and more recently engineering manager and project engineer installing full production lines production equipment and steam boilers working on FMCG, manufacturing and production equipment, a wide range of packing equipment bag and bottles.

He covers all aspects of work from breakdowns to routine maintenance, insurance inspections on compressed air, steam powered equipment and steam boilers themselves.

He works with suppliers from all around the UK for spares, and always try to find a solution for customers to keep production running, He’s never been one to just order parts and wait for long delivery times.
