Established in 1886, The CIBD are the world’s leading professional body for brewers, distillers and allied professionals. This was recognised by the grant of the Royal Charter in 2023, which has led to us transitioning to the Chartered Institute of Brewers and Distillers (CIBD) on 1st January 2025.

Founded in 1886 as the Laboratory Club with the aim to improve the technical and scientific education and to make brewing more accessible, the CIBD have long championed technical education within the drinks industry.

Their forward looking qualifications, continuous professional learning and insights are valued by employers and industry leaders. Since the CIBD began professional qualifications in the 1950s, they have qualified over 100,000 brewers and distillers across the globe.
